Enjoy the reading!

O carte foarte buna.

Citate din “The Collector” (“Colectionarul”) de John Fowles:

“When you draw something it lives and when you photograph it it dies.”
“You paint with your whole being. First you learn that. The rest is luck.”
“But forgetting’s not something you do, it happens to you.”
“You can’t buy happiness.”
“I hate the uneducated and the ignorant. I hate the pompous and the phoney. I hate the jelous and the resentful. I hate the crabbed and the mean and the petty. I hate all ordinary little people who aren’t ashamed of being dull and little.”
“What you do blurs over what you did before.”
“We all want things we can’t have.”
“The only thing that really matters is feeling and living what you believe - so long as it’s something more than belief in your own comfort.”
“I love honesty and freedom and giving. I love making, I love doing, I love being to the full, I love everything which is not sitting and watching and copying and dead at heart.”
“… love is something that comes in different clothes…”
“Men are a joke.”
“Why should people have money if they don’t know how to use it?”
“Bodies beat minds.”
“Parents always misunderstand their children.”
“I think we’re just insects. We live a bit and then die and that’s the lot. There’s no mercy in things. There’s not even a Great Beyond. There’s nothing.”
“Power corrupts, a teacher I had always said. And Money is Power.”
“But praying makes things easier.”
“That if you get to the heart of things you Finnd sadness for ever and ever, everywhere; but a beautiful silver sadness, like a Christ face.”
“Words are so crude, so terribly primitive compared to drawing, painting, sculpture.”
“It’s the very opposite of drawing. You draw a line and you know at once whether it’s a good or a bad line. But you write a line and it seems true and then you read it again later.”
